Puppy clicking rear foot
« on: August 25, 2010, 05:53 PM »
Hello everyone
My 7 month puppy Maverick had a clicking sound when he walks it is not from his hips but from his left foot. He does not look lame and is always very mobile. I have noticed it for a few weeks now and have an appointment at the vet next week.

Any ideas on what it may be or had anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in advance
James

James,

How long are his toe nails?  Could be his nails "clicking" together when he walks.  Hopefully all he needs is a nail trim and all will be well.

Hi Pam
Thanks for the reply. His toe nails are clipped regulary and unfortunately not the cause of the clicking.
Kind regards
James

That is SO odd, is it a clicking like the sound of a joint popping?

I am just trying to understand what you are describing, but honestly - I have never experienced this (myself or via others sharing).

I hope your vet will be able to get you some answers. Please check back in so we all know things are ok.

Luck,
Melissa

Hi Melissa
Yes it sounds exactly like a joint popping like when u crack your knuckles. I have an appointment in an hour so hopefully I can get some answers.

Regards

Hi guys
I've been to the vet and after alot of moving his legs around alot he got 2 loud pops out of Mavericks knees. The vet mentioned some dogs get loose knees which is a problem but his knees are nice and solid. He could not aggrevate his hips so they seem ok too. He thinks it's just like we people crack also and could be contributed to his body still growing. At this stage all seem ok. He is 7 months next week and 33.5 kilos and the vet said his weight looks perfect. His not very tall but must have heavy bones I guess. So I am feeling a little better about things for now.thanks everyone

That is odd.  At least you got him to a vet and at this point the vet thinks all is well, always good to get a vet's take on things like this.

It is a little odd so when he hits twelve months I will get X-rays done and put him on joint supplements in the mean time.
