Finding Vet in Northern Virginia
« on: July 18, 2010, 11:57 PM »
If all goes well I should be getting a my first RR puppy in about a week.

I'm looking for a good Ridgeback Veterinarian in Northern Virginia.  Does anyone have a suggestion.

Thanks.

Congrats on the new pup Tony.
Is your breeder local? Maybe they can recommend someone.

Are there any breeders local to you? They too, could recommend a good RR knowledgeable vet.

Rescue coordinators are also a good source of recommendations.

If you lay out your boundaries for how far you are willing to travel it will help members here know if they can be of help.

Remember when choosing your vet that while you want someone you trust, it is of no use to have a great vet that you can't get to when you really need them. Local is always better. (My favourite vet in the world is in NE NY state. Unfortunately, I live in Toronto  :D)

Are you a member of CBARRC.  If not, perhaps you should consider joining.  It's the local RR Club and there are a lot of members living in the Northern Virginia area.  I live in Virginia, but a lot further south than you.  Definitely CBARRC would be your best bet for this sort of information.

Joining the local RR club is excellent advise, not only will you have experienced sources to help you find good vets, but also learning about good obedience trainers and other RR friendly local events.  Lure Coursing comes to mind once your pup is old enough.  Not to mention, it's so nice to be a part of a dog club of like minded people able to help guide you along in RR ownership.

I live up in Alexandria and I like the vet that I use.  My Breeder is over in Springfield, VA and has been using this guy for all of her dogs.  Because of that he is very framiliar with the breed.

This their website.  Hope this helps.
