Ex-pens
« on: March 10, 2010, 10:15 AM »
For those of you that have and use ex-pens outdoors..... What height to you have? Do you ever wish you'd purchased a taller one?

With two dogs now, we'll be getting 2 to join together. In the past we would camp with just Sara and either the crate or a tethering between trees was fine. However, I don't want to crate or leash both all the time and I definately don't want tangled tether lines (and the ensuing choked pups)

Our only question is how high to go. They will be outside, in campgrounds, in site of wildlife. I would like to be able to even occassionally take my eyes off of them.

And.... 6 to 8 feet is not an option    :D

I am 5'3" and I swear some of them I have seen taller than me - so I am guessing they come at 6ft heights.
I have seen people put 2 dogs into one large area created by x-pens that are clipped together in a U backing up to thier motor homes with a reflective sun shield over the top.

Not sure on the costs retail, but you may have luck looking for what you want on a dog site for specs and then taking those specs to Ebay to see if you can find them on line "gently used"

Good luck!

I have 36 and 42" hgts.
they weigh a ton!
use double sided lobster clips and or plastic pipe ties to join
keep clips for the door openings.
I cover with heavy weight 80 to 90% sunshades.
Keep it taunt enough and the dogs will have to chew their way out of the tops.
Keeping it taunt requires stong tiedowns with deep tent stakes.
there ARE tops made from the same wire that you can purchase separately.

Suggest you put the pens around a stationary object, i.e. tree or post   - or - attach to trailer/mtrhome/vehicle for added security.
I was at a show where a RR owner had the vinyl pig fence sections.  quite nice...and not as heavy as metal...but more expensive and larger to travel with.
