welcome to the forum C.R.
Your intro is interesting.  Are U really a bear hunter?
And you mention that Odors is in training - should I guesstimate that he will be used for bear hunting?
There are other members who also hunt with their RRs.  Perhaps you would like to begin dialog with them after yu have your required number of posts.  At the present time that topic is not open to you.

do you have photos of your boy?  You can share them in the photo gallery.

Looking forward to hearing more about you and your boy.

I do on occasion hunt bear, its actually interesting how I got into hunting.  Several years ago if you would have asked me about hunting I would have been dead set against it.  Was very PRO conservation.   I've learned however that some of the best ways to conserve wildlife is actually by hunting (sounds weird I know..).

I've gone hunting in the past with friends who used coon hounds to hunt bear.  I might consider training odin to bay eventually, but it will be depending on his size.  Right now hes just had his first test with the shotgun out skeet shooting.  Hes not gun shy at all.  So im going to give him a try as a bird dog for now.

I've heard RR's have a pretty good sense of smell even though they are classified as a sight hound.  I would love to train him to track deer eventually.  Though it takes quite a bit of practice.

My ex girlfriend (she moved out recently.. im freee! aha.) has all the puppy pictures, im trying to get my hands on them.  I'll take a few pictures of him now that hes a bit bigger (5 months).

Since you live in Ontario you might be interested in knowing that the CKC and RR Club of Canada do not classify the ridgeback as a sighthound but rather they are scenthounds here.
That is why there is no lure coursing for ridgebacks in Canada.

Many would argue that they are neither or both.

I know that my girl Sara is much more a scenthound. Her nose is down like a beagle while out on walks. Trouble, my 10 month old male is an absolute sighthound. He notices everything including jet planes above the clouds.  :o  and EVERY squirrel.

Sara has participated in the Hunting Ridgeback Assoc.'s tests and trials and is titled in bird hunting. Comparing the natural instincts of the two, I can't wait to see Trouble out in the field.

If hunting is in your plans for activity with Odin, you are going to want to do a lot of voice and/or whistle obedience with him. Ridgebacks tend not to hunt at your side but rather to range out ahead of you in the field.
