James - Cape Town South Africa
« on: May 07, 2010, 10:21 AM »
Hi Guys - I have been a member for some time now but I have been asked to make a formal introduction.

I live in CT and have 2 Ridgies, a male and a female. Juma is 2.5 years now and is from the Kulima bloodline - and Tahra is now 1.5 years and is from the Glenaholm line.

Great forum, have used it for much information over the years! Keep it up...

Cheers

James

Hi James,

Thanks for the intro - I just learned something new :-)! I checked out the Kulima blodline breeder's info online. Wow, their dogs took my breath away - they are stunning. If you can post some pictures of Juma and Tahra.

Cheers,

Here are the links to the Kulima and Glenaholm breeders. Beautiful dogs!!! I may have to go to South Africa on vacation and "accidentally" stumble upon one of the puppies and bring it home - that would a hard story to sell to my husband but it is worth a shot  :D ;)

Betsa, for Glenaholm you don't need to go to South Africa.  Glenaholm is here in the US in Seattle as well as Jo'burg.  In fact, there are two Glenaholm dogs, Chester and Charlie, living in no. Michigan on a blueberry farm, and there is a half Glenaholm dog in St. Catherines, Ont.
Alfred, Chester and Charlie's owner, used to be on the Forum but he hasn't posted in a while.  I do know he is on Facebook.

Of course, a trip to S.A. would be amazing, but it's a long way!

Hi James,

I've also have dogs from Kulima, i find Obre a breath of fresh air as a breeder and her dogs are excellent. I'm in Joburg- welcome to the forum!

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the tips - most valuable. I really appreciate it. Yeah, a trip to South Africa would be AMAZING but it is a long way to go. I will keep these breeders for my records - I have a sneaking suspicion I will convince my hubby to get another RR (as soon as Loki is consistent with his every-day improving doggy-to-doggy manners). I have learned so much through Loki's training that I would love to take on another RR training. I know I should be careful with what I wish for but I have fallen madly in love with RRs!!!!!
Thanks again.
Cheers,

please do your research BEFORE purchasing from any kennel.
FYI - Beautiful dogs can/do come from many kennels all over the world, however not EVERY kennel does every test to see if their line is clear of potential genetic problems.

One of the kennels mentioned in this thread was a member of this forum - but has not been online in awhile.
I don't believe the other one is a member, but we would certainly welcome them to join.

and a little reminder that we do not advertise or sell puppies or dogs on this site.  All contacts should be privately.

Thanks Sandra - point taken. I am pretty sure I will be asking for opinions (not recommendations!!) when the time comes to get another dog. I am still a couple of years away from going that route. I just like getting different opinions and learning as much as possible from everyone, thus my enthusiasam about these bloodelines. This was something new for me (I understand how to train my dogs but I know very little about the bloodiness, breeders etc. This is a whole new world if information for me).

I also still prefer to rescue a RR, despite all the challenges I have with Loki.  My personal preference is to have a good pet dog (as opposed to a champion show dog) and many RRs do not qualify as the show dogs but are still amazing companions. I do check the Rescue section of this forum often!!!!! Wish I could adopt all of them :(!!!

So rest assured, I would not use / accuse this forum of advertising or selling puppies. There is so much information and knowledge that comes from different RR owners through this forum which is amazing and I thank you all for sharing.

Cheers,

I think I remember you posting before that you were from CT James. We lived in Somerset West for five years (prior to that it was the suburbs of Jo'burg).  I am convinced you posted photos but I could be wrong.  I miss my mountain. My brother lives in Durbanville and my sil and family live in Table View.

ps. there is another Glenaholm dog living in Toronto and one in Maryland (have met both) and of course Atlanta (haven't met him yet).
